Baked French Toast Casserole

The boys love french toast, but I can end up standing in the kitchen forever making it to serve 5 people. So why not let the oven do the work for me? It only takes a few minutes to pull it together. Perfect for a busy breakfast or brunch.

Baked French Toast Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 loaf of bread, on the stale side, torn or cut into cubes, about 8 cups worth
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1¾ cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°.

Spread the butter all over a 9×13 pan.

Add in the bread pieces.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and cream. Add in the vanilla and cinnamon.

Pour over the bread, then gently push it down into the mixture.

Bake for about 45 minutes. The top should be golden.

Serve warm.

Serves about 6 servings.

  1. Because I’m diabetic, I will switch out the conventional bread for an egg bread loaf, and the whole milk (carbs!) for more heavy cream, maybe diluted with water…
Thanks for the idea. Maybe add in some sugar free breakfast sausage chunks! (Amylu Breakfast Time Mini Sausage Links)

    1. I served turkey sausage with it, got to have protein with my carbs for sure! What I liked is so many of these baked french toast recipes are full of sugar, I was not adding any to my recipe – the kids had maple syrup on top! I’d bet keto bread would work in it also.
