This vintage recipe came out of the Betty Crocker’s Bisquick Cook Book. Which edition I have no idea but the drawing would have me thinking the late 50’s into the 60’s era.
Yes, Bisquick is no one’s “healthy food” but it is a good pantry staple to have on hand. It’s got a good shelf life and can make interesting recipes. Great for prepping.
I used dark cocoa powder for a nice dark pudding. Not too sweet!
And you could even use a quality powder milk to make this a full pantry staple recipe.
Chocolate Pudding
Ingredients:
- ½ cup Bisquick or similar baking mix
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup cold water
- 2 cups cold whole milk
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Directions:
In a saucepan add the Bisquick, sugar, and cocoa powder. Whisk till fully mixed.
Add in the water and milk, whisk till smooth.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, whisking constantly until it comes to a boil, cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Ladle into small bowls, refrigerate till cold.
Top with whipped cream if desired.
Makes 6 portions.
