If I could justify it, we’d have a diffuser in every room in our home. It might seem woo-woo worthy, but I find I sleep so much better if I turn on the diffuser an hour or two before bed, and let the mist wander through our bedroom and bathroom.
Awhile back Kirk picked up an Innoo Tech diffuser for a very good price (this is one to watch on the Camel Camel Camel plugin for Chrome & Firefox, as it can drop in price). It has an auto turnoff if you run out of water, and is very quiet (I don’t hear it at all). The light show is like a modern-day lava lamp – and yes, many diffusers have this now because it is really nice to have on. However, if I go to bed before Kirk, he’ll press the light button, and you can turn the light show off, yet still run the misting.
The diffuser comes with a measuring cup (it holds 100 ml of water). I add a few drops of each scent of essential oils I prefer, and often change it nightly. When I do change the scent, or it runs out of water, I use a new white paper towel to wipe it out gently, as that takes any excess oil up. (And I can compost the paper towel as well)
I prefer dōTERRA or Aura Cacia essential oils or Simply Earth.
Some of my favorites:
- 2-4 drops grapefruit and 2-4 drops peppermint
- 6-8 drops lavender
- 2-4 drops peppermint and 2-4 drops lemon
- 4-8 drops orange (fair warning, it will smell very summery!)
One note though:
Do not use essential oils that are absolutes or in a carrier oil. You don’t want to breathe in the carrier!
